MUSCAT: Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has launched two procurement opportunities aimed at reducing gas flaring and strengthening subsurface exploration capabilities, inviting qualified local and international suppliers to compete for contracts that support more efficient hydrocarbon production.
The state-owned energy producer said it is seeking proposals for the monetisation of flare gas in its North Concession Area, alongside the pre-qualification of suppliers for advanced seismic data processing services.
The flare gas project focuses on developing solutions to recover and commercially utilise gas that is currently flared during oil production operations. PDO said the tender is open to companies and consortia with proven expertise in flare gas recovery, gas processing and related energy technologies. Proposals must be submitted by August 20, 2026.
The initiative forms part of broader industry efforts to reduce routine flaring, improve operational efficiency and cut greenhouse gas emissions by converting associated gas into commercially valuable products or energy.
Recovering flare gas has become an increasingly important priority for oil and gas producers worldwide, enabling operators to reduce emissions while generating additional revenue from gas that would otherwise be wasted.
In a separate procurement exercise, PDO is seeking to pre-qualify suppliers to establish an in-house Seismic Processing Centre equipped with qualified geophysicists and high-performance computing capabilities.
The centre is expected to deliver advanced seismic data processing services that will enhance the interpretation of subsurface geological structures and support exploration and field development activities.
The company said eligible bidders must demonstrate proven experience in seismic processing, seismic imaging and geophysical services. The submission deadline for the pre-qualification process is July 28, 2026, at 11:30 am.
The planned centre reflects the growing use of advanced computing and digital technologies in hydrocarbon exploration, where high-resolution seismic imaging plays a critical role in identifying new reserves, improving drilling accuracy and optimising field development.
The procurement opportunities underscore PDO's continued investment in technologies that improve production efficiency while supporting the Sultanate of Oman's long-term energy sustainability objectives. The flare gas project aligns with industry-wide efforts to maximise resource utilisation and reduce emissions, while enhanced seismic processing capabilities are expected to strengthen exploration performance and improve decision-making across upstream operations.
Interested companies can access the pre-qualification screening documents through PDO's supplier relationship management portal, where suppliers without existing accounts may register using the Public Tender Login facility.
